Fundraising for Community Defibrillators!
We are currently fundraising to install community defibrillators at all our nursery sites, which will have 24-hour access. Whilst researching defibrillators, we were lucky enough to come across funding from Wirral Council which has helped us to install our first one at our Seacombe site. Unfortunately, there is no further funding available, so our staff and children have been working very hard to raise money for defibrillators at our other sites, they have held summer fairs, a mad hatters garden party, completed sponsored walks and much, much more. There will also be more events coming up so keep a look out! If you would like to help or contribute, please call into any of our nursery settings and speak to the manager. Thank you for all the support we have received so far, it is very much appreciated!! We are now well on the way to being able to afford defibrillator number 2!!

**Intergenerational Care: Bringing Old and Young Together!**
We are very proud to be the first nursery on the Wirral to embrace intergenerational partnerships! We are currently working with a couple of care homes and are finding both the children and adults are really enjoying spending time together! Our children have been given this wonderful and unique opportunity to learn about their wider community. Both the residents and children have a lot to teach and learn from each other. Children will develop many new skills such as empathy, teamwork, positive attitudes and communication skills.
PEEP - Play Learn and Grow together
We are very excited to be taking part in the PEEP programme with the Foundation Years Trust. Each week we invite parents/ carers from our toddler room into nursery to take part in some play sessions with their children, where we learn new skills to transfer to home. The children and their parents are really enjoying the sessions; the children love showing their parents what they can do in nursery. If you would like to join in please contact your nursery to find out when your session will be held.
30 Hours FREE Childcare and Tax Free Childcare
We will be offering 30 hours FREE childcare for eligible children from September 2017. There is also a tax free childcare scheme that parents can sign up to. To find out more information please visit our Facebook page and follow the link.
At Jack and Jill Day Nursery and Pre-School, we recognise the significance of promoting our child and families home language, and we realise that as practitioners we need to support, value and celebrate each child's spoken and written language. With this in mind, we have invested throughout all of our nurseries to give each child a confident start in the road to English as an Additional Language.. As you can see, it is such an easy tool to use, simple and straightforward, and... where every one can benefit learning as a group or helping aid communication to a child with EAL with simple sentences such as, Are you hungry? or We are going out to play?. All phrases are written in English and transcribed phonetically so every one can master the correct pronunciation and be understood.
Characteristic of learning
Taken from Guidance for practitioners in the Early Years Foundation Stage
All children and their families are unique. Developing effective practice for children learning EAL requires practitioners to consider circumstances and situations, which may be unfamiliar to them. Working to ensure that practice is truly inclusive requires practitioners to really examine what they do, to ensure that all children and families receive equitable services and have opportunities to participate, to be heard and to feel a sense of belonging within the setting.
Look how far you can go with hard work and determination!Ayme started with us at Jack and Jill as an Apprentice when she was just 16 and is now a manager!
Air Cadets Fundraiser!!!
A huge thank you to everyone who helped us raise £400 for the Air Cadets which will go towards them purchasing a mini bus. We were delighted to present the cheque to Flight Lieutenant Southern.
Tapestry - Online Journal
We are very pleased to announce that we have now started to use an online Learning Journal for your child.
Using a piece of educational software called ‘Tapestry’ every child will have their own individual learning journal. By logging on with a secure username and password you will be able to access your child’s journal. Parents are only able to view their own child’s journal and all information is stored on a highly secure server, which is closely monitored.
Tapestry online learning journals allow you to view your child’s observations and photographs from their time at nursery, almost as they happen! We will also reference your child’s learning to the Early Years Foundation Stage profile. This will keep you informed of the areas of learning in which your child is achieving, also, the age band they were working in for the observed activity.
Tapestry allows you, as your child’s primary educator, to add observations and photographs of your own as well as share your comments. We love to hear about learning at home and share this during our circle time sessions. You will also be able to share with your child’s key person activities that your child has particularly enjoyed. As children play in close proximity with their friends it does not reflect a true picture of their time at nursery if photographs are only of a single child. Therefore photographs of your child may appear on their friends learning journeys. E-safety is extremely important to us therefore we ask you to provide us with the following information and to sign the agreement to show that you have read, understood and agree with our guidelines.
Online Learning Journey – Parents’ Guide
All children attending Jack and Jill Day Nursery have a personal on-line Learning Journal which records photos, observations and comments, in line with the Early Years Foundation Stage, to build up a record of your child’s experiences during their time with us.
We use Tapestry, a system, which is hosted in the UK on secure servers.
You will have secure access (via email address and password) to your child’s Learning Journey and in addition to viewing our contributions; we encourage you to add to it by uploading photos and comments, or commenting on observations made by us.
Where do I start?
Once you have given us an email address, we will set up an account for you.
Go to https://eylj.org on your computer, or if you have an iPhone or iPad, visit the iTunes store and download the Tapestry app from the Education section (search for TapestryMobile). Login using your email address and the password we give you. We strongly recommend that you change your password on your first visit.
Changing your settings
On the computer
At the top right of your screen you will see your name, selecting this will give you the option to ‘Edit Preferences’. Choose this option and you will be presented with a screen giving you the option to change your email address and password.
You also have the option to receive an email whenever a new observation is added to your child’s Learning Journey – just tick or untick the relevant box if you would like to change this setting.
To change your settings on the iphone/ipad app, click the 'cog' button on the bottom right hand side of the application. This enables you to change password and/or email address.
Viewing my child’s Learning Journey
Once logged in, you will see your child’s observations on your home screen in a list – selecting any one of these will open up the observation for you to look at. You may add comments in the box at the bottom of the observation if you would like to - and we would love to receive such comments!
Adding an entry to my child’s Learning Journey
Choose the ‘Add Observation’ option (or the 'plus' icon on your iphone/ipad) and add the relevant information in the boxes on screen. Photos and videos may be uploaded by choosing the ‘add media’ option. When you have saved your observation, you may go back to the home screen at any time by choosing ‘home’.
The Tapestry Online Learning Journal service is owned, managed and operated by The Foundation Stage Forum Ltd. (FSF); a UK based organisation entirely concerned with offering supporting services to professionals working with early years education. For Tapestry the FSF have drawn up a more specific policy since, by its nature, they have potential access to the data entered into Tapestry accounts. Basically you own all the data you enter and the FSF won't look at it or make use of it unless you ask them to. More specifically, here are some points you might like to note:
• When you open a Tapestry account all your information is stored in a dedicated database in servers physically resident in the United Kingdom.
• When you take out an account with FSF, or when you download and install an app, information will be exchanged. FSF will not trade or otherwise pass on that information to any third party.
• FSF services and apps carry no advertising or related tracking software, either for their own use or other commercial organisations.
• The data you enter is stored by FSF, but owned by you. If you decide to terminate your Tapestry account they will ask you if you would like them to archive your information for a limited period. If you do not want to do this, they will delete it completely, which means that the data will disappear forever.
• The system necessarily stores cookies on the computers of users and mobile devices. These are simply to allow navigation of the system and collect no personal data.
• FSF will not visit your account unless you ask them to (e.g. to address any issues you are experiencing)
• FSF will not access or use any contact information pre-school enter (for example, in setting up your parent accounts they will enter email addresses allowing you to be notified of additions to your child's journal). Email harvesting and exploitation will not happen!
Again - this data is not FSFs; they simply look after it for you. FSF commit to doing this and protecting it for your sole usage.
Tapestry Early Years has been created to help providers and families share information for the benefit of children.
We are very excited to be introducing this into our nursery helping us to work in partnership and record all of your children’s special moments.
